An Open Letter To My Mum

This year for Mother's Day wanted to do something a little different and write my mum a letter. I don't know if you'll ever see it (she's not really tech savvy, bless her) but just on the off chance you do this is for you mum...

It's weird because I thought the words would come easily to me to say just how much I love you and how much I appreciate everything you have done and will continue to do for me but it's harder than I thought, not because I'm ungrateful but because I don't know if there are enough words that I can say to express just how much you mean to me.

I remember growing up, not having a care in the world, you always made me feel so safe, so loved and never wanting for anything. Little did I know the struggles you went through as a single parent but you never let the struggles show. You were always so strong, you never waivered, you were independent. I don't think you know just how much I look up to you. You've taught me everything I know, you've allowed me to make my own mistakes and learn from the lessons they taught but most importantly that good or bad, life is what you make it so never settle for less.

There is so much that I want to say but I just don't know how to put it all down in a post. You know you mean the world to me. My morals, my teachings, my take on the world is all from you and I don't think there are enough words available for me to say just how much I love you, how I respect you and for how without you I just don't know what I would do.

Thank you for supporting me - even if you haven't 100% agreed with everything that I've done. You still showed me love and patience through it all. Thank you for always being honest with me whether it was an outfit you didn't like or a hairstyle you hated. Thank you for being my best friend and never judging me.

Thank you for the gift of travel, I have seen so many wonderful places and what made them more special is having you by my side. You have given experiences that I will cherish, lasting memories and laughter. Thank you for teaching about different cultures, my own culture helping me to embrace everything and teaching me to be comfortable with who I am.

You have taught me the strength to which I know if it wasn't for that I would not have been able to do all the amazing things I have done in my life and I can't thank you enough for that. I have been able to spread my wings and see the world, experience different jobs and build on my skills.
You have taught me how important it is to believe in my own self-worth, to know my values and to never let anyone, myself included, believe I am less than what I am.

We have laughed, cried and shouted with each other and through everything we have grown together.

Mum, you are the most important person in my life and I hope to continue to grow from your teachings. If I am anywhere as strong as you are when I am grown then I will be happy.

You are my hero and I don't think I say it enough.

I am so blessed every day to have you and call you my mum.

I love you x
